In Midland, the permit question turns on walls and plumbing, not cabinets: installing cabinetry and millwork needs no building permit, but taking out a wall, widening an opening or moving the sink does, with drawings and inspections added to the job. Cabinet style and counter material decide most of the rest of the price.
Once we start, the kitchen itself is typically a 3 to 5 week job. On a Midland permit job, an inspection requested in Cloudpermit by 11am is done between 1pm and 4pm that day, so a rough-in check does not hold the next stage overnight. Cabinets, counters and the backsplash are all chosen before demolition, so the room isn't torn out while decisions are still open.
